Many children on the run have seen and heard things no one should have to. The children often relive terrible events through nightmares. Lack of sleep at night makes it difficult to concentrate at school, and the memories are painful to live with. By giving a gift with meaning, you help children on the run get the support they need to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has developed the program for Better Learning (BLP). This is a school program that combines psychological support with educational methods. The purpose is to teach children on the run to master bad thoughts and feelings. We run the program in several countries, and work with the children's teachers to achieve good results. Surveys show that of the children who had an average of five nightmares a week, 70 per cent now have only one or no nightmares. Your gift of meaning helps us work actively so that:
- The children learn to calm down when difficult thoughts and feelings arise.
- The children feel safe and receive social support from the environment at school.
- The children gain faith in their own ability to cope.
- The children gain hope for the future.
By giving a meaningful gift of NOK 500, you are helping displaced children learn to process bad memories, so that they can face a brighter future.
The gift packages are examples of the Norwegian Refugee Council's work. We use the funds that come in where there is the greatest need at any given time.
