A sewing machine can create more than clothes - help someone who has had to flee to create a better life for themselves.

Throughout our lives, many of us experience that it can be challenging to get a job. For people who have been forced to flee, it is even more difficult, especially for young people who have been out of school. Ongoing conflicts mean that some can never go home again, and thus have to find a way to participate in their new local community.

Those who are able to return home often find their city bombed to pieces. The road to reconstruction is often long and hard. By giving a sewing machine as a gift for Christmas, you make it a little easier.

The Norwegian Refugee Council offers vocational training for young people who have been forced to flee. After the course, students receive the equipment they need to practice the subject they have learned, for example a sewing machine. This enables them to start their own businesses. Follow-up of young people in the vocational program shows that the participants spend the extra income on food, health and education.

This means that a sewing machine provides an increased quality of life for the person who receives the gift. A sewing machine also contributes to more robust local communities, because people get the opportunity to actively participate in trade and create life in former war-torn areas.

By giving a meaningful gift of NOK 400, you give a sewing machine to someone who needs a livelihood.

The gift packages are examples of the Norwegian Refugee Council's work. We use the funds that come in where there is the greatest need at any given time.

Nå forsørger jeg familien, vi har nok mat, jeg kan betale skolegangen til barna, og jeg klarer faktisk å spare noen av pengene jeg tjener.
